[dripping sarcasm]
And look at what we got for it: TPM and AOTC. Masterful.
[/dripping sarcasm]
I’m all for good old GL being the man behind the movies. Nobody else would have come up with those ideas. I’m saying that based on the fact that every human being on this planet is different. What I’m ticked off at are the self-righteous gushers who trot out that lame statement over and over again when someone dares state how things could have gone. Could have gone. TPM and AOTC are done and in the can, and so will Ep. 3. All these “could-have-beens” are thought exercises. You can agree or disagree, but rubbing faces in that infernal sentence or some derivative of it will not win friends or influence people.
We get it already. Lucas is your god. He can do no wrong.
But he’s human. He isn’t perfect. He can and has made mistakes. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with calling him on it. People shouldn’t feel so threatened by an opinion.
I see some of you raising your rotten tomatoes out there! Put ‘em down!

10) “The storyline was too complex and subtle for most people to understand.”
9) “Bashers want a rehash of the OT.”
8) “You PT haters are closed-minded.”
7) “Just wait until Episode III. It’ll all make sense!”
6) “People’s expectations ruined the PT for them.”
5) “Bashers wanted little Anakin to be a mini-Darth Vader.”
4) “When you make your own million-dollar grossing movie series, then you can criticize GL!”
3) “The characters are supposed to be stiff, boring, and starchy.”
2) “It’s been ___ years! Get over it and move on!”
And my #1 favorite gusher cliché:
1) “If you hate SW so much, why are you on a SW message board/site?”
*raspberry*

All this talk about the SW saga being Anakin Skywalker’s story is just bogus. Revisionist history. It never was about Anakin Skywalker, not the OT. No matter how hard people want to shoehorn him in there, the OT is Luke Skywalker’s story. Always will be. We didn’t even hear Anakin’s name until ROTJ. If people want to say the PT is about Anakin, that’s fine, although I don’t think it’s doing a great job at telling that story. I just love how people want trample what has come before in favor of the bright, shiny, and new.
I guess it comes from what they perceive GL is doing.

See that pic of Palpatine? I picked that one to put here for a reason. That’s the only time in all of SW that he handled a lightsaber. And he didn’t even use it! As it turned out in ROTJ, he didn’t need to.
There’s a lot of speculation rampant about Palpy and his change of job title from Supreme Chancellor to Emperor. And the question invariably comes up as to what powers he could demonstrate in Ep. 3. I often see the word “lightsaber” paired up with the word “cool” or “kewl”, and it makes my stomach turn whenever I come across it.
Everytime, I say to myself (because if I posted it, I’d be set upon immediately), he doesn’t need to use a lightsaber, not even to slice nerf for a sandwich. His character is already diminished by Count Dooku’s use of force lightning in AOTC. I always thought of force lightning as the Dark Side’s ultimate expression of hate, aggression, and anger, and should only be used by its most powerful disciple. Palpatine used it because he couldn’t get what he wanted (Luke turned to the Dark Side); Dooku used it simply as an offensive weapon, as if it were available to all Dark Side Force-users.
I say to those hoping for another “kewl” lightsaber fight like Yoda’s (*cuss icon here*); “Just forget it. If the PT is going to retain the small amount of integrity it has, no Palpy w/lightsaber, please.”
Oh, God…I can already see Hasbro making a prototype of the action figure…
